Cotton sateen is a bedding fabric woven in a satin weave. Yarns float over several others, which gives one side a smooth, lustrous face. Bedding sateen usually has a thread count of 82 or more and yarn of Ne 40/1 or finer. It is used for hotel bedding and premium sets. Satin names the weave, not the fibre, so check the composition on the series page. Prices are visible to members.

Frequently asked questions
- Is cotton sateen the same as polyester satin?
- No. Satin names the weave, not the fibre, and shiny polyester fabrics are sold as satin too. In bedding the word usually means cotton sateen; ask for the composition in writing.
- Percale or sateen?
- Sateen is a satin weave; percale is a dense plain weave. Sateen is smoother, shinier and slightly warmer; percale is matte, cool and crisp. Percale suits summer sets, sateen suits hotel and premium bedding.
- What TC is 83-thread sateen?
- About 210 TC. Turkish thread counts are per square centimetre and TC is per square inch, so TC is roughly 2.54 times the Turkish figure.
- Is stripe sateen printed?
- No. Shiny and matte stripes are created in the weave, so a single-colour fabric shows a tone-on-tone stripe. Give the stripe width in your enquiry.
