Flannel fabric: what it is and how it is used

Flannel for bedding is usually made of 100% cotton and brushed after weaving to raise a soft nap on the surface. The nap traps air between the fibres, which is why the fabric feels warm.

Flannel and pazen

In Türkiye the same fabric is often sold as pazen. The word usually means 100% cotton brushed fabric; some sellers use it for a heavier version. Flannel was historically a wool fabric, but most flannel sold for home textiles today is cotton.

So when you order, look at the composition, the weight and whether the fabric is brushed on one side or both, not just at the name.
