Fabric width and bedding sizes: how many metres do you need?
Bedding fabric is sold in wide widths because duvet covers and sheets are cut in one piece, without side seams. The right width reduces waste and sewing work.

Worked examples
- Double duvet cover (200 x 220 cm) from 240 cm fabric: 2 x 2.3 m for front and back, about 4.6 m in total. The leftover strip of about 30 cm is too narrow for a pillowcase, so count it as waste.
- Single duvet cover (160 x 220 cm) from 240 cm fabric: 2 x 2.3 m = 4.6 m. The leftover strip of about 70 cm is enough for 50 x 70 cm pillowcases.
- Double sheet (240 x 260 cm) from 280 cm fabric: with the 260 cm side along the length, about 2.7 m is enough.
