Jersey sheeting: knitted fabric for fitted and baby sheets
Jersey sheeting is knitted: the yarn forms rows of interlocking loops. That structure stretches, so a jersey sheet wraps snugly around the mattress.
Names in the trade
In Türkiye the fabric is sold as penye or jarse. Penye is also the word for combed cotton yarn, and jarse comes from the English jersey. Mills often call the same single knit süprem.

Cotton or cotton-elastane
- 100% cotton jersey stretches because of the knit itself. It absorbs moisture well and feels soft.
- Elastane improves recovery after stretching. A fitted sheet with elastane grips mattresses of different depths better and keeps its shape longer through washing.
Uses
- Fitted sheets in mattress sizes such as 90 x 190, 100 x 200, 160 x 200 and 180 x 200 cm
- Cot and crib sheets
- Pillowcases and duvet covers
- Top layer of mattress protectors
Points to check
Knits usually shrink more than woven fabrics. Ask for length and width shrinkage before cutting. The pocket depth of a fitted sheet follows the mattress depth; 20–30 cm is common. If baby products need a certificate, put that in your enquiry.
